OK, this is a friend's Socket A mobo, he currently has a 1GHz Athlon in there and we're curious to see what model it is! I'm pretty sure it's an MSI because you can just about make out "Micro Star Computer" on the back of the yellow plastic port cover, but which model? I tried the number that's on the same sticker on MSI's website and on Google, thinking it might be a serial number, but it hasn't come up with anything...

When you power the PC on, when it is "posting" and counting the RAM, it's possible that the model number could be displayed on the screen.

It might be along the bottom of the screen or near the top. It's worth a look.

If it isn't MSI then Chaintech is another possibility going on the basis that I used to have a socket A motherboard by them that looked similar.

Does the system still work? If so then a tool like Aida32 might be able to help with the identification. :)

Asus boards are normally that colour. :)

It's not an Asus. And I wouldn't say it's an MSI either- their older boards tend to be green. I would agree with semi-pro waster that's it's some kind of Chaintech board- no idea what model though

Doesn't look anything like the ECS L7SOM, ECS Elitegroup K7SEM or the ECS K7VMM Socket A board.

If the board posts, along the bottom of the screen is a row of numbers/letters. This will identify the make as well as the bios version. What does it say?

Look between the PCI slots - is there any model number printed in there? MSI boards (including the OEM versions of these) often place the numbers in there. (Can't see this from your photos)

But beware that MSI supplies motherboards to system manufacturers that are not the same as the MSI board. System builder messes with the BIOS. This then breaks standard compatibilty.

Also - try Googling the BIOS codes.

And clean the gunk out of that CPU fan!! LOL!! :D

Also - that yellow connector on the board. Which I assume is the joystick port. As it is labled "Micro Star" then you are talking of an MSI motherboard here. Micro Star is MSI's old name.

MSI - Micro Star International

Nice hairy fingers btw, I suggest you never go for a job as a hand model
