Hey guys, this is posted in the distributed computing forum, but I thought just posting this picture in here might give me a better chance of working out what it is, I'm pretty sure it's a xeon board, but can anyone tell me what socket this is?

So 1366 or 1567? Hmm I'm trying to work out what chip it could be then, the clock I recall is about 1.8 on the chip, but I can't really get the heatsink off and check because it's not mine to dismantle, I'm looking into buying it and getting a second chip and some more ram for folding :)

X58 is the chipset and it supports all Nehalem based CPUs including Xeon ones. There are two sockets available for motherboards that use the chipset, LGA1366 and LGA 1567.

I'm pretty sure it's 1366. The few 1567 pictures I can find look different.

Yeah I think you're right. It looks like a 1366 :) what xeon's are available for this socket? I think it's quite old so probably a discontinued xeon?

As said, its LGA1366, LGA771, LGA1567 and LGA2011 look visually different.

The board looks to be from a HP ML150 G6, still a very capable machine, it will take pretty much any LGA1366 Xeon including the big hex core monsters.

That must be it ;O for some reason though, when it was our main server, it was INCREDIBLY slow, sometimes would hang for 20 minutes and be constantly maxed out on ram and cpu :\ I don't see how it could be a beast cruncher :O
