Identifying CPU.

Firstly sorry for my limited know of current CPu's but i am trying to identify this processor in a PC i have been given and how it stands in current market.



How does it compare to my daily use PC which is a Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366)

I think it's a mobile i7 Sandy Bridge-NB

Extreme /Performance mobile 4 (8) Socket G2 (PGA 988B) BGA 2.0–2.5 GH

(of course, all that came from Wiki so is probably complete ****)

OK.. only thing i got a bit confused on is Wiki shows it as 2.5ghz but CPU registers this at 2.4 ?

Take the longest string of numbers and letters and type it into google. Its served me well in the past

I think that there is a range of different CPUs with speeds from 2.0 to 2.5.

Being an ES chip is it not possible that he may have to set the multi manually?

All i know is the bios it set to the standard setting.. ie nothing has been changed. Unless the motherboard is detecting the CHIP multiplier incorrectly.

If CPUZ is reporting accurately (it probably isn't) this is the best match:

Intel® Core™ i7-2920XM Processor Extreme Edition (8M Cache, 2.50 GHz)

Try CPUZ 1.56 instead.

Max TDP 55W - made me think of S/T-series, but these would be 65W/45W.

Only the i7-2920XM has a 55W TDP, but other criteria are wrong. Intriguing...
