Hi,

Can anybody help me to link 2 computers so that I can keep certain files synchronised between the 2.

COMPUTER A
Desktop PC running Windows XP
Runs Kaspersky Internet Security
Wired connection to Lan port on D-Link router

COMPUTER B
Laptop PC running Windows Vista
Runs Windows Firewall
Wired connection to Lan port on same D-Link router as A.

Both computers access the internet fine via the router but I need them to be able to see each other to share/synchronise files.

I'm guessing that I need to create a workgroup between the 2 but I haven't got a clue how to do that! Can anybody tell me in laymans terms how to do this.

You don't HAVE to create a work group. The best bet would be to setup a folder to share files on each computer (right click the folder, properties and go to sharing tab). Then on the other computer go into my computer, go to the tools menu and click 'Map Network Drive'. Choose a drive letter and in the folder box type \\computer A\share1. If both computers use the same user name and password, click finish. If not clikc 'different user name' and type in the password of the accound for computer A. Then do the same thing for the other computer as well.

That should work if your using DHCP from your router, if not then you might need to user the machines IP address instead of 'computer A' or 'computer B' in the map network folder option.
