Idiot Postman... What should i do?

What kind of mickey mouse place only sends basic delivery, or perhaps recorded, every single royal mail special delivery i have signed for, most likely this was standard first class thats the only stuff i've had that was put into a bin one time at an old student address (amazon package i think).

Being a graduation standard dress maybe it was in an envelope or bag style envelope and not immediately obvious what it was, should have just bought one from a uni shop etc and tried it on weeks before, not waiting for it to come in mail.

It's not a graduation gown! it's a smart dress, yes i know it will be under the gown but she wanted a new dress for the occasion, regardless the delivery was sent from asos.... so not sure what parcel/recorded etc it was as of yet. Need to find this out.

Thats how it is when they dont ship special delivery from online places, its an economics thing as special dleivery isn't cheap and they just claim from royal mail when things go wrong (everyday) i would never buy a £100 item of clothing online as trying it on etc is the sensible thing to do, especially as needed for something more important than a normal night out.

Well like you say, she can wear something underneath or buy something from town, and then claim refund/exchange from asos, your rant at royal mail may have lost someone their job.

irrespective of the content of the parcel, he did not know what was in the parcel. As far has he is concerned it could have been anything. The postman has been informed that it was a item of clothing. He does not know how much.

I have not yet ranted to anyone - apart from here :) Hence my OP asking should i rant :p - Judying by the amount of responses i am definitely not over stepping the mark and over-reacting.

I disagree, imo you have to expect a certain number of mistakes when using mail services, i have had an item put into a bin too (1 out of about 500 or so), but if i had insisted on special delivery (at increased cost) i would have got it hand delivered.

I doubt the guy would even lose his job anyway, maybe he was a noob and just being cautious in what he said to your g/f, i bet a lot of experienced postmen have lost standard mail, dropped items into wrong doors all the time on standard, special delivery is totally different and means extra care is taken.

Wouldn't even enter my head to report someone.

I would try and get money from him, if not then contact the RM though i'm not sure how hard it would be to do anything about it..

Our postmen know we like stuff left in the garden box so they generally do that.. though recently they haven't been leaving the red notes and have just been putting stuff there..But we have an idea of when stuff is coming but still

hmmm, maybe you live in a village or something and have had the same one for years, its not allways the case though especially in large towns and cities.

Live in a town, so not exactly quiet. It has changed recently as far as i'm aware, but a note on the day just signled them to do that so. Obviously if its recorded it will go to neighbours.

Though leaving something in the recycling box. wack idea

Does your other half look hot as in a similar dress???

Pics?? Thread is useless without them!

Contact ASOS and tell them you are still waiting on delivery and let them sort it out with RM. And then get him to pay

I had a similar problem, not with a postman but with a delivery man from the Home Delivery Network. I ordered a digital camera online and when delivered, the genious decided it would be fine to drop the parcel over the side gate....A 7 foot tall side gate onto a concrete floor!!!

The same delivery company did exactly the same with a new Dyson my mother had ordered, which was pretty special of them, and must have been hard work, Dysons aren't exactly light so to get one up and over the gate must have taken quite an effort!!!

Regardless of the value of the package or if it should have been sent another way, he didn't do his job properly.

Since he was begging it can't have been the first time something like this has happened :)

1) Buy a new dress
2) Tell the post man to pay the cost of the replacement dress before the end of the week

if not then:

3) Report him
4) Recoop money from Royal Mail not via the insured postage thing but direct from the management (send a copy of the receipt) because their employee messed up they should pay up.

If you don't get anywhere take it further and higher up if need be.

I am thinking he should cover the cost of the parcel out of his own pocket....
I think he should cover the cost of finding a suitable replacement locally and be thankful he's not collecting his P45.
