...I've actually installed Win7 dozens of times but never on a system like this one.

I've just built the physical system that turned up this morning - it ended up broadly like post #13 in my original thread with a couple of minor changes. So far, so good. System powers up, I can enter the BIOS and so on. However, when I try to install Win7 I get an error after a couple of seconds of "Expanding Windows Files" - the error is "Windows cannot install required files" and that's it - nothing more.

At present only the optical drive and SSD are connected and the SSD is in AHCI mode - is this correct? Do I need to load a driver somewhere?

I have downloaded all of the stuff mentioned in the MB specific thread so should have whatever I need - if only I knew what it was :)

Thanks in advance :)

Does it get the error in the same place each time?

Maybe the DVD is scratched?

:o Oh my goodness how embarrassing! Why is it always the simple things? This is my 1st SSD installation and I assumed (Wrongly) that I was doing something wrong - Mode, SATA port, missing driver or something similar. Switched to my original DVD and it's certainly gone past the previous failure point :)

Cheers!

*Hangs head in shame*

Mind you, I'll probably be back with another silly question at some point...

Just joking with you :) it is always (more or less) the most simple of things... last year my brother in law nearly wet himself because his laptop just suddenly turned off all by itself and he was panicking like a man possessed! It turned out that his wife has hoovered up that morning and not plugged his laptop back in again LMAO!

My favourite trick at the moment is waiting for the kettle to boil when I haven't switched it on :(
