Idle Internet Connection Turning Itself Off

When i leave my computer downloading, sometimes i come back to it and it is not downloading and my internet accounts like skype for example are all signed out, i think it is just shutting off the internet connection when it has been idle for so long, is there a setting in windows where i can turn this off?

What sort of internet connection, dial-up, isdn, ADSL or cable? If it is ADSL/cable, do you use USB or ethernet modem?

Your power saving options on your ethernet card are probably set to allow the computer to turn it off to save power.

No, that's not it. That feature is disabled.

Not sure this applies to a broadband connection, although I think Tiscali is shown as a dial up, so it might:

'Make sure that the auto disconnect is disabled, In Windows goto Internet options, goto the Settings of the default connection, goto Advanced, un-tick disconnect if idle for more than 20 minutes, un-tick Disconnect when no longer needed'
