I probably already know the answer to this but I'm kinda curious..

I've ended up with some spare DDR4 (2x8gb 3000)

Recently upgraded one of my PC's with a bundle, 5700x3d and 32gb ram (2x16gb.@ 3200 I think)

Is it worth throwing in the spare ram to occupy 4 slots?
Just figured if it doesn't hurt, it's better than gathering dust in a drawer?

I run this setup but both sets have the same timings, unless you need more ram I wouldn't bother in your case it's going to run slower than your current 32gb setup

Yeah I dont need more ram, I thought it would just be a safe place to store my spare ram, more than anything, but the old kit is slower, so I guess I woudn't really be doing myself any favours, lol

Yeah.. Assuming I can get it stable I could only realistically run it a 3000 rather than 3200 or whatever my new kit is.. And I might have to sacrifice timings also.

Probably a non starter to be honest as I don't really need extra ram.
I might try it out of I get bored one day lol

yeah it's probably only worth about £25-30 anyway at a rough guess.... it's boaderline E-waste, I might just give it to my mates kid as i think he has a pretty shonky pc

No it works if the channels are balanced 24gb in each

It wouldn't be balanced though in my case, it would be 2x8gb 3000 and 2x16gb 3200, and I guess as I wouldn't really use the extra capacity, the lower raw speed might make it worse overall?

I've not checked the timings, as that might be another rabbit hole... a fun experiment for a rainey day I guess.
