Just reading the thread in here on the "new wrc focus" with the hideously modified ST got me thinking.

I have an ST and I told the guy to just put me down for an RS if one comes along.. so off I trot to google and I find this

http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/10/19/spied-european-ford-focus-rs/

what do we think? I think the badge on the back of it says tdci ST like the mondeo which would mean it was a diesel which could explain the bigger front air intake.. that would be a very appealing prospect to me as I do mega miles.

A 4wd 300bhp RS would be blimmin awesome though, might save me some on tyres anyway :)

anyone care to join me in some idle speculation?

more juicily, anyone work for ford? heard anything on the grapevine?

If they were to announce it tomorrow I don't think we'd see it for a year (or 2 or 3 like the last one) so I would defo have my name on one from the off.

Everyone is hoping Ford make this car, like the MK1 Focus, everyone wanted a Cossie version but never arrived, in fact the RS was so hyped and delayed. Don't get me wrong, The FRS is a great car and I'm thinking of getting one next but it is no Cosworth.
It could just be a test car, like the 24 valve Escort Cosworth that was produced.
I love Fords and go to all the main events each yea, until the M3, have only ever owned Fords including Cossies, but I reall really do hope they produce a mk2 Focus proper RS, but I'll wait and see.
I find it strange how other manufacturers can realease turbo models with no fuss, but Ford seem to have such a drama.
Bring on the RS!

They seem to have managed alright with the Focus ST!

I think the issue is whether there is significant demand for a Focus with more than 225PS. Developing and homologating a 300BHP 4WD Focus won't be cheap, and given the price of the ST will have to retail for upwards of £25k. It just won't sell in big enough numbers to see a decent profit.

An ST diesel version would sell easily and so makes far better business sense.

According to spy photographers, the sound of the 300 bhp engine was unmistakeable, was was the car's quick acceleration with all-wheel-drive and the rallye-like sound of that dump valve while shifting gears.

Whilst I think it would be brilliant if Ford made a new Focus RS, this is what to me calls BS on the whole story:

1. How can you hear how many BHP and engine has?
2. How can you see the car has AWD?
3. How likely is it for Ford to fit an atmospheric dump valve from the factory?

I'm certainly not trying to say it was true and the bhp thing you're right is (as the thread title) idle speculation although you could imagine if they did it it would be comfortably over the already healthy 225 in the ST.

I think the assumption it was 4WD came from it catapulting itself up the road without clouds of tyre smoke like you can easily achieve with the ST.
