Hi

Just a couple of questions as I'm interested to know how other people use iDRAC

Do you tend to run your iDRACs in dedicated mode (IE its own interface or shared mode (using the servers NICS)

If you run it in dedicated mode do you put your iDRACs in a separate VLAN?

Thanks

iDRAC is only avail to use via the onbaord NIC is it not? a dedicated LAN port is used on DRAC cards.

I use both and with no VLAN.

iDRAC 6 enterprise has a dedicated card, but you have the option to run it in shared mode which will utilize the server NICS

Dedicated ports, own VLAN with firewall policies set to only allow http(s) and remote console ports from predefined management stations

ESX service consoles sit on this VLAN along with other management gumpf like tape library management etc.

Not sure tbh, I believe they support dot1q but not 100%, mine are on switch ports with assigned vlans so no tagging from the DRAC
