I'm attempting to troubleshoot a friends laptop.
They're using Sky Broadband having moved from Virgin. The speed is okay when testing via online speed test (3 mbps), however it takes a ridiculously long time to load pages. For example I clicked a link on the BBCs web site and it took around a minute to load.

I know the connection is fine because I'm testing it in our office on a guest internet connection.

Is it worth uninstalling all the Sky stuff which the user installed from the CD provided? I'm assuming there's something amongst all that which is checking pages?

install firefox or opera, if its still slow change to open dns see if it speeds up a bit. still slow reboot the router if its fine for a few mins then goes slow its his line.

:)

I uninstalled all the Sky software (including McAfee) + I had to get a clean-up tool from the McAfee web site to get rid of Personal Firewall. Installed AVG and MS Defender and browsing speed is improved. :)
