Hi,

I have finally managed to get rid of a virus on my sister's win xp laptop (kind of tries to trick you into thinking its a windows virus scanner, changes you wallpaper, locks you out user control etc.)

All seems to be fine except one thing. Say i search for something in google and click a link from the results I automatically get re-directed to some other site - basically not the site I want.

I thought this was an IE issue so tried the same thing in firefox and exactly the same happened. Checked that addons had installed thmselves and were running. Ran several full virus scans and used that spybot search and destroy program along with ad-aware. All turn up nothing.

Can some kidn soul suggest something before I re-install/repeair everything?

Thanks

Sounds like some sort of malware is still on the system

Try running Super Antispyware the pro version has a free trial and there is a free version on there website

http://www.superantispyware.com/

Maleware Byte's is also getting good reports by a lot of users haven’t tried it myself thou

What AV is installed on the system ?

malware can be a right a pain and its normally a combination of good AV and a couple of decent AS apps to remove a infested system

EDIT = i removed the counter spy link and recommendation as it has just updated to v3 i havent used version 3 only the previous v2 so cant say to much about it
