I seem to have acquired a process that claims to be iexplorer.exe which runs all the time my pc is on and when i kill it it'll just restart and it hovers between about 60-80mb of ram use ...

There is also another iexplorer.exe running which seems to eat about 10mb of ram :/

I'm guessing its a virus of some kind or something as i hardly ever use IE so theres no reason for it to be running !

Is there a way to kill it for good ? I've done a virus scan and nothing untoward has been picked up so I can't see what it could be!

TIA >.<
:)

Internet Explorer has the process name IEXPLORE.EXE, so anything other than that is suspicious. You done an ad-aware scan?

Ah, cheers guys - i gathered as much - it does indeed give me pop-ups when i do use IE - such as msn opening my inbox and so on ... and FF too for that matter!

Shall Ad-Aware its ass !

Well i've run ad-aware and it found about 37 items which i had it remove but the process is still running, any ideas on how to stop it manually ? wheres it likely to be located ?

A hijackthis log with tell you the full file path.

You'll want to stop the process via task manager, then run regedit and find and delete the correspending registry key.

Then reboot the machine. If it's still running, let me know.

If it's a trojan or similar, a full scan with kaspersky will more than likely sort it though...
