hi guys,

i use and have always used IE (now on using IE 7). i like it, think its easy to use and dont have problems with it.

i see on here and in other places people slating IE and telling me to get FF. is this just becuase FF is much better, or is it because people hate MS.

i will happily try FF and use it if its better, can you tell me why its better and what addons make it so?

For me, its adblock pro, and customizegoogle. and spell check. thats the only biggy reason why i use FF. i have been using it for a number of years now, guess it just feels natural for me to continue using it.

Firefox is a nicer browser than IE, lots of add-ons for extra features etc. It just does things a lot nicer.

I personally use opera but I recommend Firefox to people just because its a bit less hassle than opera.

I use predominantly Opera as IMHO it does it's job much more elegantly than FF, but my favourite used to be Firefox just for the extension support... until I realised that the extra functionality of extensions can be applied in Opera - it's just a little harder than clicking an install button.

I don't like IE6 at all, but I don't mind IE7 - however, the extension support is lacking a lot.

I prefer Firefox as it stops 99% of pop ups, the google auto complete search function is really handy, and as said, the spillchucker is great :)

Plus the add ons to it are good as well, DownloadthemAll is good, as is ForecastFox is a good weather applet :)

I still use IE for some sites, our intranet looks wierd on Firefox, and not all websites display properly.

Oh and the "restore" session ability is good for when the computer crashes :)

IE7 was a big improvement over 6 IMO, but Firefox still cuts it for me - faster, the extensions are great (like the default download manager - you can pause a download! Try that with IE's basic Run/Save As dialog box!)

install firefox
install adblock plus, when it prompts you for a subscription, choose EasyList
browse a few sites in both of them, see the adverts that adblock cuts out?

customizegoogle is another good one, can block the rest of the googleads that adblock misses, and searches google as you type into it's search bar

ie is still utter balls, all they've added is tabs and a phishing filter, which everyone disables anyway

i dont get any popups any more. i can see spellcheck would be helpful.... and i like th idea of searching google while i type.

can you tell me why IE is balls?

I use IE7 with ie7pro - so I get mouse gestures, adblocking & spellchecker.

Too many sites I use are incompatible/don't work as well with anything other than IE. Specifically OWA and Egg Banking.

Its the extensions which make FF good. Otherwise it is quite possibly the worse browser of them all.
I use both evenly.
Opera has heaps of inbuilt features, I don't know why more people don't use it.

I use IE. People should be allowed to choose whatever browser they want without others baiting them about it.

One thing I really hate is when people on their webpages put these scripts that hover on the webpage or take up half the screen saying "It appears you dont have Firefox etc etc" trying to force you to download it.

I like the facility for FF to open my previous windows. I also like the add on that a new tab opens your home page (set to Goooogle).

I also think Opera is pretty fast, but where is the home page button?

I stopped using IE because it was just too slow. I wouldn't go back.

I use Opera as IE is nowhere near standards-compliant and FF ain't quite there yet. Also look at Safari as it uses the KHTML/WebCore rendering engine.

IE is badly coded - that goes for IE7 too, but no where near as much as IE6... IE6 is terrible, and with IE7 not needing WGA there is really no excuse for using IE6.

I have to spend so much time fixing random errors that IE6 (and sometimes 7) generates from its bad page rendering.

A recent one with IE7 was when changing the border on an element on :hover, the parent element got an extra 20-ish pixels in height - as if this wasn't bad enough, IE7 wasn't even rendering the extra 20 pixels height in the parent element properly by ignoring its background image.

I spent a long time finding out exactly what was up and trying various ideas to stop it. The solution was to put a hidden form field inside the parent div to stop it randomly expanding.

IE7 is okay, it has its bugs (far more than Firefox or Safari) but I don't hold a grudge against people using it. IE6 on the other hand - I just don't know where to start, there are so many problems with its rendering... the only excuse for not upgrading to IE7 - if you must stick to IE - is either not having XP or you're being plain lazy ;)

I should invoice Microsoft for all the times I've had to spend getting more complex CSS to work properly in IE6!
