Have you tried resetting all your IE7 settings? I find this usally fixes un-common errors like the above. :)

Add-ons for IE are the biggest cause of crashes. It doesn't matter how many millions Microsoft spends on testing IE - all their hard work can be brought crashing down by a badly written browser plug-in.

Use the "Manage Add-ons" option from the Tools menu and see if there are any wierd things there thak are either unwanted or suspicious.

Interesting.

A friend of mine's brother bought a brand new basic spec PC from a well known retail park PC mob.

It came with Vista Home Basic and only 512Mb of RAM. :eek:

Consequently, it runs like a dog.

Worse than that, he's getting constant errors similar to the one above, only its telling him "Windows Explorer has stopped working" rather than IE.

Same problem event name though - APPCRASH.EXE.

Googled it to look for a quick fix, but didn't find much info so I told him to return it although he hasn't done so yet.

Maybe this is worth trying? Bit of a punt though.

Also you can rule it out as being a problem caused by an add-on by running IE with the -extoff flag, e.g.

Start->Run->"C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

This will start an IE instance that won't load ANY add-ons or supplementary modules whatsoever.

Do you have SP1 installed ??? as thats when my problems started.

hi yes i have it installed, but the reason i installed this was because i was hoping it would cure these problems.

for me a least service pack 1 isnt causing this as it was there from the moment i installed vista 64 on a brand new home made built p.c.

i cant even use msn it either displays a message like the above or just turns itself off when i click the email, some emails are fine though and i can read them, but most just cause windows messenger to go back to the inbox.
