I've recently started using W7 and I use I8. Some of the webpage links just wont work for me. For instance if I go to overclockers homepage and click forum, literally nothing happens. I have this with a few other sites as well.

If I use a direct link to the forum it works fine.

Any ideas?

ie is crap, all ways has been, always will be, i was a firefox fan but then its wound me up, kept crashing my ati driver on flash games so been on google chrome ever since.

although i don't like the absence of bringing back up a x'd tab and bookmarking to the tool bar is a little more complicated, it does every thing i want and its 10x faster then IE8

IE has always had bugs and to think Microsoft make it. its just so incompatible with windows like its a third party application

use firefox or google and your never use IE ever again. also if your worried about bookmarks etc then it will import it over when installing either

has the page opened in another tab?

sorry forgot to say i remember getting this allot with ie, along with other problems is why i dislike ie and moved to firefox, and then to google as said

it would just act like that page is a dead link telling you the server doesn't exist or you've spelt the web page address wrong

has the page opened in another tab?

No tabbed browsing is disabled.

I'm also getting "Server Error in '/' Application" when clicking some google search links, both in IE and firefox.

I'd prefer to keep using IE rather than Firefox, I should have said that earlier :)

try this... might work, seems to be the solution to this problem from microsoft
if not then pass!

Method 5: Internet Explorer troubleshooters in Windows 7
By default, Windows 7 has the following two Internet Explorer troubleshooters:
Internet Explorer Performance and Internet Explorer Safety

To Run Internet Explorer troubleshooters:
Close all programs.
Click' Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click' Find and Fix Problems under System and Security.
Click' View All on the task pane on the left.
Click' Internet Explorer Performance.
Click' Next in the dialogue box.
The troubleshooter will run and fix all identified issues automatically.
Click' Close.

After you run the "Internet Explorer Performance" troubleshooter, start Internet Explorer to see whether the issue is fixed. If the issue still occurs, run the ‘Internet Explorer Safety’ troubleshooter by using the same steps as mentioned earlier

Just tried resetting everything, still no joy and when I click the ocul logo at the top of this page that doesn't work either.

Basically this is the first day I've used win 7 in anger due to other issues.

A mate of mine had this, links wouldn't open for him either, i think you might have to unistall it all together and then clean up your c drive and delete all restore points under system files as well and then restart and re install i8, i think this is how we fixed his issues with it

heres how to unistall i8

Close all programs.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Under Programs, click Uninstall a program.
In the tasks pane, click Turn Windows features on or off.
In the list of windows features, clear the check box next to Internet Explorer 8.
You receive a warning message in a pop-up window. Click Yes.
Internet Explorer 8 will now be uninstalled. The system will restart after the installation

My mistake it doesn't work. I can make the links work if I use I8 64 bit but then I cannot see embedded flash like youtube videos etc.

I guess I will just have to start using firefox until they get a flash pluggin for IE8 64 bit.

Will vanilla ie8 not make the links work for you now?

Never heard of that I will look into it.

Dont use IE6 64 bit, it does not work with flash, use the 32 bit version and it should be fine.

My problem is if I use the 32 bit version I cannot click any links. If you posted a link to a bbc website nothing happens, I've tried this on multiple forums and no links work. Also things like the ocuk link to the shop above doesn't work.

This all works fine in 64 bit apart from stuff that requires a 64 bit flash plug in :(

Firefox works fine but I don't like the layout and find the whole look messy.
