So this irritating little bit of Malware has reared its ugly head on my friend's Vista Home Basic laptop...the usual process for removal doesn't seem to be working...is there a different process for removal for Vista? This is driving me crazy...

The weird thing is that the IE Defender program isn't actually installed...just getting the popup saying it's been infected with a trojan and critical files could be lost.

Any ideas?

Windows Defender is installed as part of the OS installation in Vista.

So unless this has been manually removed it will still be there, control panel / windows defender.
