After my PC has been on for a while Internet explorer starts playing up

it seems to limit the amount of instances that I can have open at nay time

this slowly reduces and reduces until I have only I window

if I look in task mamnager there are multiple instances of iexplore.exe running ( maybe 6-8 )

on killing these processes all is fine

any idea ?

thanks

There's a whole host of viruses/spyware that use iexplore.exe to host their payload - might be worth running a throrough sweep of your system with an AV and Spyware cleaner.

Your situation sounds weird Rotty. I'd definitely do some spyware scans. What antivirus are you running?

Get Lavasoft Ad-aware and Spybot Search And Destroy. Make sure they are up-to-date and scan your PC and see what you get. Also run HijackThis and post the log here and we can see if there is anything dodgy running.

Also use programs like A-squaredfree aswell as programs that scan the registry too, aswell as anti-rootkits. Having witnessed these kinda programs due to a learner on the course showing off with programs that come up as iexplore and sometimes hide themselves from the actual task manager.

Have norton AV , spyware doctor , Ewido . NTL stuff and probably other stuff tii

will try adaware and spybot too

am going to try is step by step , d/l and ran adaware last night so will see how that goes

thanks so far :)

I had Norton AV everything was up to date and I downloaded AVG Free from grisoft and it picked up two trojans and a worm that Norton didn't. My friend had the same issue but different a virus.

I am now using AVG its good and doesnt use a lot of system resources and isnt very intrusive when you are using the pc, it updates in the background.

No probs Rotty. Hope it goes well. Have you got Spywareblaster? It might be an idea to get that on there if you haven't already. It stops spyware getting onto your PC in the first place so it might be worth installing it to stem the flow of spyware into your PC, if it is indeed spyware that is the problem.

Spywareblaster runs passively so you shouldn't suffer any reduction in PC speed.
