By far my favorite game for Gamecube and in my top 5 for sure. If any of you haven't played it take a look! :) Its so epically win. Im a FPS gamer so games like this wouldn't normally interest me but I remember completing it a few years ago. So Win!

Highly recommended to anyone! :)

Going to rain on your parade I'm afraid :p

The plot was great, the sanity meter was fantastic, the gameplay was actually pretty boring sadly. Most enemies could be killed the exact same way and it was fairly repetitive.

If you can forgive that, then yes, there are some very redeeming aspects of the game.

I picked up an old gamecube and memory card so I could play Metroid Prime through again (unbelieveably awesome). I might pick this up and give it a try, I remember it got good reviews at the time. Shame about the Gamecubes relative failure, there were so many good games on it that were never played because of the PS2 domination.

There weren't that many good games on it.

I remember thinking something similar with the N64. I thought it had oodles of great games. It really didn't - maybe 10 games that were excellent, but that's it.

I agree. I've posted something similar in a few n64 threads.

I remember that on watchdog. The consoles went from £250 to £150 to £99 in no time at all.

£499.99 for the N64 at launch went it first came out, £50 - £60 per game:eek: And people thought the PS3 launch price was high.

I remember Eternal Darkness was ment to be an N64 game but moved onto the Gamecube. Brought it myself, thought it was ok but never got into it much.

I was pretty sure my £250 > £150 > £99 was correct and after a quick google it appears that it was. It sticks in my mind because a friend had one pre-oredered from Woolworths and moaned with each price drop.

It might sound daft now but at the time, the '64-bit' was what sold it. We had not long jumped from 16-bit Megadrives and SNESs to 32-bit PS1s and Saturns. That was the biggest single generation jump there has been. All of a sudden we had games such as Tomb Raider and Ridge Racer etc etc. Tomb raider would not have been anywhere near possible on the 16-bit consoles but now it was. Then we hear that there is a 64-bit OMG console coming out but it turned out to be no better/worse that the PS1, probably due to lack of CD drive.

Early adopter tax was really harsh back in the day. Nintendo would have like to keep it that way :)

Even worse when you consider they just replaced the $ with a £ sign. I bought a Nintendo DS Lite and UK adaptor in the States for £80 or so, had it for a year and sold it on for a profit!

I have this halfway done on the Wii. I liked it, but I forget what the sticking point was.

I agree N64 was a hideous wallet emptier so much so I had to claw some back at the height of Wii mania.

To be honest, I think 10 was too generous.

mario 64
goldeneye
Zelda (2 games)
mario kart (dubious)
perfect dark
banjo kazooie

... not a many more than that I'm pretty sure!

Conkers Bad Fur Day
Blast Corps
Pilot Wings
Space Station Silicon Valley
Turok
Turok 2
1080
Excitebike 64
Paper Mario
Donkey Kong 64
Jet Force Gemini
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron

adding onto your list

Eternal Darkness was a pure beast when I got it. Still sitting on my shelf with ma xbox games as I still play them time to time on my wii.

The Gamecube had many exclusive titles that were awesome. A lot more than ten. Just looking at my shelf;

Zelda:WW
RE0
REmake
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2
Super Smash Brothers:Melee
Star Wars Rogue Squadron
Super Mario Sunshine
Pikmin
Mario Kart:DD
F-Zero GX
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life
Eternal Darkness
Wave Race Blue Storm
Eternal Darkness
Animal Crossing (I actually bought this in Aus but iirc it was released in the uk eventually)

Infact 95% of my gamecube games are first party or exclusive titles. 3rd part crap really wasn't the point of owning a gamecube. My xbox 360 on the other hand is the other way around with mostly 3rd party titles. I have no idea wtf Nintendo have been doing with their game studio's this gen as there is Sweet FA on the first party front with the Wii.

Go back and play those games now, I assure you they won't be as good as you remember :p

The only game there that is worthy of the title excellent is arguably Donkey Kong 64 - and I wouldn't argue in its favour. Some of your choices are... interesting :o

EDIT - actually yeah, conker was rather special.

Quite, apart from first party games the gamecube was rubbish.

N64 and gamecube had rubbish 3rd party support.

Perfect Dark as well. I know it hasn't aged well but as far as I'm concerned that was the best console FPS until timesplitters 2 took it's crown some years later.

Beyond good and evil as well for the Gamecube, another great exclusive.
