If I buy a cpu cooler...

Hi, since christmas on my new PC, I've only been running on the standard cpu cooler (running AMD Phenom 1055t) Could you recommend a really good cooler? As I was planning on overclocking
At the moment, I was going to either get a coolermaster V8, a Thermaltake Frio or wait a lot more for maybe a H70/H50?

If you wanted to, you could recommend one better? or tell me if a Frio would beat a V8? As somebody must be running one on these forums :)

personally I love my h50, but that choice was forced by some clearance issues on my old motherboard, and the standard fan is noisy as sin at full whack. the Frio is getting very good reviews (seems to beat the h50 as well as several much larger air coolers) and is a good chunk cheaper, so I'm sure you wont be disappointed!

yeah the frostytech chart is great but they could do with a 200w load test now i think as heavily overclocked i7's can reach that kind of wattage and a couple of coolers like the nh-d14 and thermalright silver arrow would really get to stretch their legs and show how good they are at that kind of heat load while i suspect a couple of highly placed coolers in the 150w chart would start to drop away.

No knowledge of the Frio first hand... but your link seems to indicate that it's a noisy mother!!!! :)

Running a Silver Arrow here at the moment, but previously a V8 amongst others. The V8 preforms well but it's tall and requires a Antec 1200 size case really and other older coolers, like the mighty Megahalems, perform better. The V8 also requires a free expansion slot at the back of your case for the fan speed controller .... which is a real pain :)

EDIT

Found the H5O no better than the V8.... but more than likely down to a user issue than the cooler :)

heard this as well

the h50 is ok, but coupled with 2 better fans in push pull it's amazing in terms of cooling/noise I have mine running with 2 akasa apaches running at 100% all the time, they are almost silent, and kept my q6600 @ 3.2 under 55. now got a sandy bridge at stock and it doesn't get over 45 while playing BC2 (which is almost as good as prime in my books)

The Frio is quite noisy when the fans are run at full speed but there's a manual speed adjustment knob to get them running nice and quiet.

Well with good coolers you tend to either get performance or quietness. Getting both usually requires more monies. The Noctua U12P is still one of the quietest on that list and at the time it was a very good cooler also.

i wouldn't call 22 coolers a comprehensive list when the frostytech chart has over 200 coolers on it :p

Ah yes, but Frostytech don't test various fan combinations and real CPUs for that matter :p

The Frio isn't loud on the lowest fan setting and still performs very well as per the Vortez link.

yes but the synthetic test that frostytech does ensures that all coolers are tested with the same load without any fluctuations that could come from an actual cpu ?

i'm in no way knocking your list Helios1234 (although it can be hard to read :p) as it is very good. just saying that it isn't comprehensive :)

Hehe I know, I do plan to add more but it's hard to get manufacturers to send coolers :/. And yeah I need to make it somewhat easier to read.

I have been using a TRUE on my 1055T for around 6 months. Running with a dual fan set up and it performs really well. Pushed it 4Ghz before and the temps stayed good. Running at 3.5Ghz at the moment and idles at 27c and highest I have seen it is 36c.
