Not strictly true in many cases though. Even the human operator will gladly re-activate you even if you explain that you have extensively upgraded the machine. You'd be surprised how little the OEM license is tied to what an OcUK'er would call the PC. In some ways Microsoft value the CASE of the computer more than the motherboard... because it is the case that has the validity sticker with the CD key...
 
Last time I changed my mobo and re-used the licence for my oem XP I clicked on activate windows and it simply said "your copy of windows is activated", nothing came up about it being activated on a second mobo and after 4 years I still haven't had any contact from microsoft saying that I need to buy a new licence.
