Anyone think having 4gb of ram with vista will be a big improvement, i remember reading that Vista uses more ram than XP and thus making it a little sluggish in gaming. Anyone know?

If you can afford it then yes, definately get 4GB. I will be :D

Also a 512MB graphics card will make Aero fly.

Remember Aero will unload, and the memory manager will stop caching things when you enter a game; so it'll be more or less the same as under XP.

Honestly?

No

Vista uses around 400mb (with a reasonable amount of drivers etc loaded) of ram, so 2gb should be fine for the foreseeable future

Well my Vista install is using 933mb/2gb with just idle internet browsing, and antivirus and a few other programs in the system tray. Maybe you can get away with gaming on 2gb now, but I would suggest getting 4gb, because within a year you will need it.

depends what game you are playing, current games will play fine with 2gb, but games coming late this year/early 2008 you may want to get more ram if you play with maximum settings

God I'm still sitting here running 1gb. Games and OS's are just going so far along. Should just buy an xbox 360 lol

2GB would be enough for gaming -- if you go for 4GB then it make lots fast... I stay with 2GB as it still work with any games under Vista - it wont make any problems at all - if new games say that it need more than 2GB then install extra RAM to 4GB but most games usual work fine with 1GB or 2GB also be careful with RAM with too much size cos it sometime can break the RAM fuse so just start with 2GB with any games and find out after you get Vista next time and yes 512MB graphic card would be much great with Aero Glass - Im still using ATi Radeon X1900XTX 512MB and running FX-55 San Diego CPU

2GB will be the sweet spot, game designers will work to fit their games into that amount of memory. Maybe a couple of games will go over 2GB, just like only a few games get near 2GB now. But you certainly wouldnt need 4GB. (not unless you're a noob and install loads of crap, or if you buy a dell)

Vista makes full ue of memory, because it uses nearly all if not all of you memory it does not mean you do not have enough.

What the hell. I've only just invested in 2gb. Now we need 4.
You will not need 4GB of memory, you probably will not for a very long time.

Don't smack me for saying this but if you are going to go near 4Gb, should you be running the x64 version of Vista, too?

Dont listen to this guy, he has no idea what he's talking about.
I'm running vista, and like someone here rightly said, Vista will unload.
Also, are you smoking crack, why on earth would a 512 card be better than a 265 card at running aero? i.e: x1900 256mb card will be ZERO different than a 512MB x1900 when it comes to aero. Aero has got nothing to do with games at all.

Correct.

But 2GB will be fine. Don;t worry about claims that Vista needs xxxxx amount of memory. It merely manages memory differently to XP and appears to use more. However as said, when games etc. are loaded the OS will all of a sudden not need much memory for itself, leaving it for the game or application.
