If I got a 285 or 380/x to run with a 7950 could I use freesync?

I'll be upgrading my gfx most probably when we see AMDs next gen of HBM2 cards but I'm looking to get my freesync monitors early next year.

No freesync support on the 7950s obviously (well for gaming) so could I crossfire it with say a cheap 285 or 390 series card to gain freesync support?

I'm guessing yes if it's set to the primary card and all the displays are fed from this card.

are there any other cards I could crossfire the 7950 with? I know DX12 enables a lot of multi card functionality but I'm wondering about the here and now.

Also are freesync, crossfire and eyefinity all playing nice with each other yet? I'm wanting 1440p eyefinity so I'm guessing I'll need two next gen cards to pull off decent framerates? 1080p eyefinity is still a possibility mind or a mix of 1080/1440p @27"... eg. 1080/1440/1080 is that a possibility?

you cannot crossfire 7950, with 285 or, 390, or even the new 380, if you put both only one will work.
if you want freesync get a new card like 390, and sell the 7950 or put it in your 2nd rig if you have one, about DX12 multi GPU, i think it's more about the devs than DX tech, so the game is the one that need to support that as far as i know.

Hi Alamox, cheers for the response. I was assuming I could crossfire like I could with the 280 but after a little googling I can see that's not the case. I thought it would be a nice little tide me over until I get my new cards next year. It was something I was willing to spend around 100 on in the MM so as not to dig into my upgrade budget. A 390 and I think probably even a 290 is out of budget for the time being, I'll look on the MM when I order the monitors on the off chance.

You can crossfire with any of another 7950, a 7870 XT, 7970, R9 280, or R9 280X.

AlamoX is right though that you can't do a 285 or 390 :(

Edited as I totally misread what you wrote above, fael :(

there is still time to wait for the next gen GPUs, i have a feeling we will see a delay on what was announced with both vendors, so if you can wait till the end of the summer 2016 or holiday 2016.
390 price is pretty low if you can grab one with a freesync monitor, that will be a nice upgrade from what you have right now.
about freesync, crossfire, eyefinity, it's pretty much a driver matter, and AMD have been doing great in this area lately.

Come on now add a smiley in case someone mistakes sarcasm for belief...

Waiting isn't a problem both of my 1200p monitors are dead at this point and I'm on an old standard ratio screen which really isn't enjoyable in any way ha! I should just buy a few capacitor kits to get them running again but meh. I'll probably feel different when I get the monitors :D

seriously you see anything coming up before june ?
HBM2 isn't there yet so i doubt Nvidia will release HBM2/16nm cards in the next 6 months. maybe maybe xgddr5 or some other crap they were talking about.
AMD, samsung and glofo will start production in Q2 (means the end of it to me)
and you give it another 4 to 6 months, so end of summer or holiday for AMD.
i am not saying they wont release anything, am just saying they wont release anything ppl are waiting for HBM2/FinFet, but they could release other 28nm crap.
