If I plug a network switch into my router can I still use the other ports on the router?

I've run out of ports on my recent model Virgin router (AC model I think).

If I buy a cheap gigabit network switch and use up one of the ports can I still use the others or do I need to get a network switch with enough ports for everything I need?
