tbh downloading it will take way longer than just installing from your CD's.

Install the original CDs, install TBC, download patch 2.4 (1gig), patch the rest in ten minutes. Quickest way. It's what I did recently.

You can carry on with your characters as im pretty sure they dont delete anything. You can use the blizzard downloader for patch 2.4, or try one of these mirrors

They didnt delete my character after almost 3 years of being inactive.

So i think you should be okay
