If i couldnt afford a intel core duo sff what would the next best thing be, AM2 or dual core intel.

Intel probably because you can keep the motherboard if you were to upgrage to c2d later on.

Hard call to be honest.
Getting a setup that would be combatible with a conroe processer incase in the future you buy one when they have dropped in price.
But AM2 would be better for overall performance, as the first Intel dual core chips really really sucked unless overclocked (which required hug amounts of cooling)

I'd got Intel and put up with the performance hit. Depends what you are coming from really.

Also, depends whether you ARE going down the C2D route later.

AM2 will not be too much cheaper than the C2D route.
