Well it's my birthday tomorrow, and I haven't got anything special really for it bar a meal with some friends.

So, I've been a good chap and saved myself some money to spend for my birthday on myself if I want to... I resisted the urges in the previous weeks and months, of buying a new graphics card etc, so I could have a 'spendaage' on my birthday.

I have around £500 to spend here at overclockers :p, so you name it here and I'll take some of your ideas on what I can spend my money on into consideration. ;)

Looking at your sig, only things really are the G-Card and Cpu maybe?

But even they're both top notch to be fair, other than if you wanted to go Quad Core just for the hell of it.

Yeah quad core would be nice, but I don't think the temps would be as nice as say my dual core, especially when overclocked. Unless I get the Q9300... but the cache is only 6mb.

Looking at your sig i'd spend money on holiday. :P

Question is are you happy with your current setup? Is it running everything smoothly? If yes then dont bother realy.

I wouldn't tocuh that system tbh.

If it's to noisy invest in some quite fans.

Keyboard, mouse, steering wheel, headphones(for late night gaming), new seat.

oh better still don't spend it on a computer.

it's fairly quiet, and cool so that rules cooling and such out. My set-up is ok, but struggles in games like TF2 and Crysis, simply because my gfx card is pants (struggles even when overclocked).

I got 38fps on crysis in 1280x1024 with gfx all on high, which isn't bad I suppose, but I don't consider this framerate playable (for me atleast.) In TF2, I get around 150fps with dips to 50fps when lots of players are onscreen, this is with 0xaa and 0xaf. My gfx card is the definite bottleneck of my system, but I'm not sure whether to go for something in the price range of the GTS 512 or a single 3870 to tide my over until the true next gen cards hit.

I'd get a Q6600 with a nice new cooler (you dont mention what you are cooling your current CPU with)

and if you want to spoil yourself, a 3870x2 or a 9800GX2/9800GTX

If it were me, the first change I would make was to remove the PSU you have, take it outside , and smash it with a sledgehammer. That would give me immense satisfaction, cos you will have killed it before it could kill your machine :) (locate the thread on the Hiper Explosive PSUs located elsewhere on OCUK - I had one die on me)

I'd spend the cash on either of the following:

  • 24"/26" monitor
  • Z-5500 speaker system
  • Keyboard/Mouse
  • Case
  • PSU

The choice is yours, I wouldn't bother upgrading your spec just yet! :D

go on...spend it lol, i have done that in the past (bought myself presents on top of what other give me) you do feel spoilt then :-)
remember this, its not about asking yourself, "do i need it?", its about asking "do i want it?"
two totally different concepts
and happy birthday for tomo :-)

If you aren't happy with the 8800gts 640 then get a new gfx card (9800gtx?), and i'd say a new psu, plus a q6600 for good measure (with a 120 ultra extreme to cool it)

I don't believe an 8800GTS640mb struggles to paly any game, any upgrade to the gfx card at this time will see virtually no improvement. even a dual 3870 only gives a few fps more.

Put it this way in crysis High detail
Pc pro rates
8800gts512mb at 32fps
HD3870 x2 at 31fps
