So who here lives in a household using the "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down." mantra?

I understand it's a pretty good way to look at preventing water wastage, but is a bit minging to most.

I personally have no problem with doing it, but the wife is dead against it. All waste must be flushed!!!

What about you?

Our toilet takes an age to refill so we quite often have a "Dont flush!" shout if someone going in and you might need a wee in the next 15-20 minutes.

Otherwise we flush away.

That's also done here, for example in the mornings. "Don't flush!!" if you need to go while someone's already in there. Unless they're doing a poo, of course. The last thing you need to see first thing in the morning is someone else's log breaking up as you pee on it.

I also tend not to flush if I've been drinking a lot, for example beer, and my wee is completely clear. Afterwards, it looks as though nobody was even there so I feel like I'm doing my part for the planet and only flush when it starts coming out a bit yellow.

Do you know how hard it is to turn sea water into drinkable water lol.. hard.

If the governments code for sustainable homes 2016 does come into force we are going to see much more of water saving features in homes as currently our water usage is miles off what there targeting.

I also heard that toilets in most of the proposed "Eco Towns" worked on a sand based principle when flushing, rather than water. Waste was dumped into sand buckets beneath the house, which would need to be maintained by the owner.

This may have been complete fallacy, however.
