the amount of firearms over here is crazy, most nights you hear people firing off ak's and ar15 etc around here. I just tell my daughter its fireworks. 80% of the guys at work have guns in their cars. My boss carries a colt .45 everywhere he goes. In New Hampshire your seen as odd if you don't have a gun. Most people say they carry it for protection, yet we live in one of the lowest crime and safest states in the country. Which the NRA will probably say is due to everyone having guns...

Whilst it is true that some of the states with the highest levels of gun ownership also have low crime/murder rates the correlation is actually a poor one.

None of the top 5 states by gun ownership are in the list of the top ten "safest" states. and many of the top ten highest gun ownership states have really quite high murder/crime rates.

If you are looking for a safe state to live in there are far better correlations with crime/murder to look at.
