But does with a direct connection, what is the first thing i check?

Ive got my citrix connection working with the cable modem straight into the laptop, but it refuses to work when connected to the router and getting a 192 address, any advice? Thanks.

I'd be inclining towards finding appropriate ports (or firewall rules) than DMZ, it's using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
On what end of the connection is the Citrix server on - behind the router?

If it isn't behind the router it's possible DMZ won't fix anything.

The Citrix server is over the net behind a firewall (at work basically).

I can create the vpn and authenticate to their firewall but cant open a citrix connection.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Try DMZ, but be warned you might not gain anything.
Does the VPN work fine for other things (ie not Citrix)?

Couldnt tell you unfortunately, i have nothing else to try.

I can tell you a

"telnet serverip 1494" doesnt work.
