Totally in a rage about this.

Coming home from work, a journey I have done hundreds of times.

Joining the express way, the slip road is quite short. Bring my speed up to about 55, indicate all the way along the road. Cant really see cars on the express way because of trees/its uphill.

Come to join, look over my shoulder. Someone really close on my right, cant pull out in front. Decide to slow down (not breaking, just foot off the accelerator to get in behind them) the arse slows down with me!!

I then have to brake to avoid the barriers at the end of the slip road. The arse in the Citroen decided to brake with me!!! What are they doing??

Second gear selected, rally out infront of them. I horned- they flash. Its all over.

The Citroen guy has right of way, fair do's he/she got it. But don't block me joining!! If II didn't rally it i would have been into the barrier.

he slowed down to let you in
then braked to let you in
then realising the confusion flashed to say sorry

That what happened?

I once had a totally random episode whereby a transit van decided to pick on me and not let me on the motorway at all. He matched my speed all along the motorway and forced me onto the hard shoulder and then did the same until I managed to get some speed out of my car.

I seem to attract this kind of thing.

Confusion causes accidents. Its like someone flashing you at a junction, you pull out, BAM, its your fault...

I once got stuck behind some old dude in a Suzuki Jimny joining the A2 barely doing 30 mph. He caused havoc with all the traffic doing over 60 when he attempted to join.

Why bother? Please don't flash me to say sorry.

The express way was clear. He/she was the only car around. Please don't slow down on the express way to let a car join, a driver should adjust their speed on the slip road to join.

Directly matching my speed nearly caused an accident and it would have been my fault.

If the person really wanted to be courteous and let me join they should have used the other lane. I know when ii see traffic wanting to join ill move out or flash them to show my intention to let them in.

Close call, squeaky bum moment. First in a long time.

Slowing down to let you in is confusing as hell, the onus is COMPLETELY on the joinee to speed up/slow down as appropriate.

You should never flash your lights for any reason other than to identify yourself to other drivers.

Guys I work with from Europe think it's really odd that drivers in the UK flash lights at each other. In Poland flashing your lights means coming through I'm not slowing down!

Meh, approach at a speed in excess of the car already there, slot in in front, job done.

Approach at similar speeds, bit of confusion, drop it a couple of gears, foot down, job done.

Or if driving the Mrs car - ensure travelling a bit slower than the car already there, job done.

I had pretty much the same thing recently but on a dual carriageway, me in the inside lane and a cyclist up ahead that both me and the guy overtaking me spotted at the same time.. It didn't help that it was at night going around a bend, on a road that has an adjacent cycle path. Neither of us saw him until fairly late, I hit the brakes and put my indicator on and the guy just matched my speed, I had to swerve into his lane slightly to avoid the bloody cyclist.

I'm really not sure why they're allowed on dual carriageway but not motorways, there's more room on motorways at least.. Shouldn't be on either imo, too dangerous for them and the cars around them. Bah!

Should have cut in front straight away at the beginning. Always cut in front, always...

We were side by side. I would have had to slightly undertake them to get out in front.

If I were to speed up to pass them and they speed up we would have had real trouble.

EXPRESS WAY

Its the name of a road in Glasgow - Glasgow (or Clydeside) Expressway (A814)

BTW - This is my point in the "Road Rage" thread. If you change your speed/direction on a motorway to accommodate someone joining then accidents can happen. If the person using the sliproad uses it correctly then there should be no issues.

You never "undertake" when joining? As per Clarkey, I will always aim to join in front of the closest car. Tbh I can't think of any sliproad there that is short enough to give you any trouble, just sounds like confusion all round.
