Predator would get all the nifty items and abilities to play with, so definitely them.

In the normal AVP games though, I have usually preferred to play xenomorphs.

Marines were probably best in AvP1. Though admittedly you had to disable the pred disc as it was far too powerful. Homing in on enemies without aiming even near them andhitting multiple enemies for huge damage = not much fun.
