Hi, currently upgrading some of the components of my first ever build attempt, (new GFX, PSU, HDD, and case)
on the horizon i was going upgrade to i7 (starting a new uni course in sept that will involve a lot of rendering etc) and after some tweaking of my purchases (a 275 rather than a 285) i have a bit more to play around with.
i was wondering if i were to upgrade to i7 on a budget, would i still notice the difference?

currently running a q6600 at 2.8Ghz (it runs very hot, so scared to push it up more) 4GB DDR2 (5-5-5-15 according to CPU-z) and a 512mb4850 which is the the bane of my life.

will be upgading to a new 275 gfx.

and wondering if i was to get a 3gig of DDR3 and an i7 (probably push it to running at a bit over 3ghz) would i see a noticable difference? (will be upgrading to 6gig asap.

im still learning all this so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

what case do you have? and cpu cooler?
edit: what stepping is ur cpu aswell? i would'nt waste that cpu its a good one:D

currently in a antec 300 with a artic cooling freezer7 pro. (will be upgrading to a 902 as i just love the case)

ive had someone with more comp knowledge than me take a look, and he thinks it may just be the CPU itself.

and the 4850 has a dodgey fan which wont let me increase the speed, and just general annoyances, tried driver updates etc... (considering it was my first build i may well have screwed up myself)

i use my PC for gaming, general work use, and soon i'll be using a lot of maya.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but my HD4850 has been running fine for 4 months now, plays all my games at max/full AA.

Maybe we just use our systems for different things, but I didn't want anyone getting the wrong idea about this card.

um, not really the point of the thread but if i run prim95 it creeps up to 70+ which combined with a Hot GFX card isnt too nice, as i have to crank up the fans which makes it fairly loud.
and i dont really want to fry my comp so dont want to risk putting it higher...

appreciate your looking to upgrade but with the kit you have you should be able to get a decent performance out of it.

has the computer friend checked the processor to ensure the cooler is seated properly ?,

is it the cooler that came with the processor ?

what voltage are you running through it ?

have you thought about putting a new cooler on the 4850, any chance your m8 could try it in his pc ?

you'd see a performance increase but i would suggest seeing if you can resolve your current issues before getting new kit.
