If venues run out of food, can you take your own?

As per title really.

Last year we went to an event where food and drink was not allowed into the venue. Far enough. I queued for 20 mins to get 4 hotdogs, but when I got to the front they had all sold out. I asked if they had any other food and they didnt!
We all went hungry as didnt want to miss the event by leaving to get food.

If somewhere does not have food too sell, can you take your own? Id have thought so as food is a basic right isnt it? 'no sorry, you cant eat anything sir' The venue wasnt close to any food retailers either

What was the event ?

i typically avoid big queues at events if i can help it unless its for drinks, and ill try and stock up on a couple

Nothing worse than paying high ticket prices and then spending the night in queues, and also paying for overpriced food.

Saying that, most of the events i have been to in my life, is not really somewhere you would go to eat

If your hungry wouldnt it be easier to grab something before you go in to the venue that will last you until you get out ?

a lot of places will say no to bringing your own food, as if you bring your own food, that means there is a gray area where people can say well if i can bring food, why cant i bring my own drink

Whilst pretty poor it's probably not a mandatory thing that they offer food. Normally if we go to an event like this I plan to eat beforehand, and if still feeling peckish can grab something at the event but at least won't go starving if they run out.

Probably a blessing in disguise, whilst you did end up maybe a bit hungry for a bit, you were also saved from spending £40 on a couple of soggy, overcooked, tasteless hot dogs!

If "food and drink was not allowed into the venue" how come there were hotdogs on sale?

What did the T&Cs actually say?

If it was a long enough event that I might need to eat, I'm taking my own food in the same way I do with cinema visits.

I don't care what the supposed terms and conditions are, they're not going to turn you away or search your bags to see if you have a sandwich. I flat out refuse to pay silly prices (or worse, wait in a queue) for food that is blatantly a dodgy mark up, and I doubt they're going to fight over the fact even if they're aware given they might lose out on an overall sale.
