If you buy a pre-used XBox 360 game are there any problems using it? ie: It's already registered?

If I buy a pre-used XBox360 game for someone, will they simply be able to install it, and everything will be fine? Or is there a risk of it already being registered with another account?

Depends what game it is? There are a couple like Fifa 11 that require an online pass for multiplayer (Get one code with a brand new copy of the game or have to purchase one if its second hand)

Accounts aren't tied to the Xbox. The only way it could cause trouble is if someone had modded it and the console itself had been banned from Live.

The vast majority of games are just a disc, therefore there's nothing to stop you selling/buying second hand.

Pretty much all single-player games will not have an issue of it's second hand or now.

However:

Multiplayer games are getting a bit more difficult. For example Battlefield Bad Company 2 has a 'VIP' pass that comes with new copies of the game that gives you a load more maps to play with, whereas if you bought second hand, you wouldn't get those maps. You can usually buy the extra content via Xbox Live to top your game up to what you would get retail (so you can buy the BFBC2 VIP pass for 800MSP). Another example is Mass Effect 2, there's a bunch of DLC that you can only get with new copies of the game, but you can buy it if it's second hand.

Some single player games do have an issue, but it's less dramatic. Deus Ex: Human Revolution, for example, had a code in the box to get some extra gear an extra mission, but the gear wasn't much to shout about and I doubt the extra mission is that brilliant if it didn't make the final cut.

Just discovered Homefront needs a pass to advance above level 5 in the multiplayer... Not to worry though I've had more fun poking sharp stuff under my finger nails than playing this...
