No - the milage should be attached to the vehicle, rather than the engine.

No, becuase the car has still covered the mileage it had before the new engine.

I think the mileage goes with the vin number not the engine number so the answer is you can set your clock to whatever you like, but your last MOT will be proof of the cars mileage.

It would help if the garage owners actually recorded the correct mileage - The Transit van we use at work has done over 150.000 miles, yet the new computerised MOT states 15.000

No, as stated above the mileage stays with the car not the engine.
