Hi all,

I have still not decided on what 3 1440p monitor setup to go for for around about £1200, so the question would be what would you buy. If you had a mix of things you would use the monitors for eg, desktop work, photoshop, some gaming a real mix.

cheers

Personally I wouldn't buy a multi-monitor setup anymore. Ultrawide and super-ultrawide monitors are way better for productivity IMO. A 34-38" 21:9 or 43-49" 32:9 will be way better than separate monitors and are roughly equivalent to dual an triple monitor setups respectively.

Maybe something like : -

Samsung C49RG90 49-inch Super Ultrawide Curved Gaming Dual WQHD 1440p Monitor

or

Samsung LC49HG90DMUXEN 49" Curved 1ms Ultra Wide 144Hz Monitor - 32:9

lots of other brands with similar offerings.

a Samsung C49RG90 is 5120x1440 A Tripple monitor setup would be 3 x 2560 x 1440 = 7680x1440 and would cost less than the C49RG90. I dont understand how would a single Samsung C49RG90 be way better for productivity as its less working area than 3 monitors ? also if one monitor goes down thats it you have nothing with three monitors you have two more to use if one goes down. I ruled out ultrawide monitors because you would need 2 as each are 3840 X 1440 that would be equal to three 2560x1440 monitors but would cost more and would be off centre on the desk as you could not have a centre monitor.

A 5120x1440 monitor which equal to 2 2560x1440 monitors are crazy money as you can basicly buy three for the price of one monitor which equals two

also you have much better controll with three monitors to one eg.

If you hit "maximize" on, say, a VLC player, on an Ultrawide, it will literally take up the whole ultrawide screen not ona three monitor set up it will just fill one monitor.

you can pleace the task bare in the centre on a three monitor setup you can not do that on asinlge ultrawide.

and thats just a couple of things i thought of the top of my head.

I'd go single large monitor too. Less complications, no bezels. I have a VA and an IPS monitor. I'd say I prefer the VA for the colour, can't say I've noticed ghosting and it's not even a particularly great panel in that respect. You have to keep reviews in context, they have to find difference even if it's not actually that noticeable to the average user.

If you can I'd try and get to view whatever you want to buy for yourself. That's the only reliable way to see if it's acceptable to you.

The key thing to bear in mind is that with a 3440x1440 or 5120x1440 monitor you can comfortably divide the screen into a horizontal resolution of 1720x1440 for most apps/websites and still have more than enough usable screen space. This is how you can happily have 2-3 "screens' on those monitors.

Windows/MacOS does snap to side easily for a dual screen for a dual display setup and there are apps you can install to achieve the same with a triple setup.

I appreciate that certain things which go to full screen won't be usable. So you can't play a game or watch a movie whilst using the other display on an ultrawide. I occasionally hook up my Playstation to do Picture in Picture though with the PC on Displayport and the PS on HDMI.

The main thing I like about the ultrawide is that it's more ergonomic as you aren't forced to sit awkwardly when using the side displays plus there's obviously no bezel between you screens. I find it more usable when doing productivity work.

There are pros/cons to both the ultrawide and multi-monitors setups though. Just thought I'd throw it out there as I wouldn't go back to multi monitor though I appreciate for some they may not see it as a viable alternative depending on your workflow!
