If You Had £2k

i have 2k and its being spent on doing the bathroom. That avocado monstrosity we have at the moment (from the previous owners not us!) is getting on my nerves.

For the OP, i'd say dont get the MBP, I like apple gear but its over priced. If you have the money laying about then its fine, if you are having to make a decision then dont.

I would really love to have a MBP but I think the benefit would be from Option 2

If I had a job etc then I could save for a MBP but at the moment it's better for me to learn to drive and save the other money in my bank until I need to buy the car etc

Put £1k towards a car
- Put around £300 towards driving lessons (Currently have £100 towards that atm)

THen save up and get ur MB!

Corsair 600T, a tonne of custom WC stuff, a dremel for future reference, some decent headphones and a new screen lol

I'd say option 2 but with a few conditions. Try and spend as little as possible on the car. It's the insurance that will hit you hard. £500 for a mondeo will do nicely. There's a motors thread and I recommend posting there if you want some advice for a first car.

As for new clothes, have you considered shopping on eBay? I buy a few bits and bobs (with the condition of it being in excellent condition) and I have saved a fortune. £5 for brand new Next trousers is hard to say no to, especially when they are £35-£40 in the shop. As for a laptop, you can easily get away with spending £150-£200 on something very decent second hand :-)

Then put the change in the bank. Simple.

I was going to buy the car when I was about halfway through my lessons or something so I would be saving that money for a while and hopefully get some intrest on that :)

As for the clothes I buy from M&M Direct which is fairly reasonable for prices :)

I'll second this, have bought some dirt cheap BNWT clothing off ebay as well as second hand stuff. Get a lot of people on ebay that buy an outfit for an occasion and then only wear it once or twice.

Who spends £2000 on a laptop? How pointless.

What always confuses me about this sort of thing is that people who consider spending £2k on a Laptop are those who can least afford to do so - ie, it's such a big deal they must ask the internet if they should buy a £2k laptop or buy some driving lessons.

Whereas people on here who could quite easily buy a £2k laptop probably wouldn't...

I'd probably buy a drum kit and learn drums, put some towards travelling and maybe some gadgets like a new phone, hard drive and speakers.

Go with your second option mate. Your licence is an investment for the future, a new MBP will be out next year anyway.

Travel. I don't think material goods have as much worth as meeting new people, visiting strange and unknown places and coming home with memories to last a lifetime.

It would be really interesting to go travelling but as I'm only 17 and at College I couldn't do that :(

The only time I could do that is in the summer and I wanted to go to Italy or somethingn with my Dad

Save it then - I'm only 18 and I'm still working towards a big travel sometime after my studies.

I'll admit MBPs are nice though... :D
