what would you get?
see the problem is i was gonna get a £500 system running with a 19inch widescreen and vista 64 (i have both of these) but the missus has put her foot down (suprising what such little feet can accomplish) and im forced to try and spec a £300 system to tide me over til i can get a decent gfx card (4850/70 in a month or 2.)
this is what i have gone with so far (i was gonna go with intel as ive always had AMD but meh, what can ya do!)

are you desperate for a new pc??? if not just wait till shes a bit more generous:D £300 dont get you much you see plus i would choose the C2D E5200 over the amd 7750

well in the last 10 minutes my entire situation has changed lol.
you see ive been unemployed since returning from australia and have been living off the tax i reclaimed from oz, hence i needed something to keep me busy, but luckily.. and im not really stressing the luck part of it, mcdonalds(no joke) has just given me an interview on wednesday, if i get the job (never thought id even apply tbh), ill just save up for a month and get a much better intel based system. LOL
god how sad is this lol.

If you're currently unemployed, is spending £300 on something that you don't *need* a good idea?

i respect you for trying to get another job straight away sometimes ppl pride themselves too much, respect for not just thinking i will claim off the dole

QUite diffiucult to do but so often you think, well if I just add £10-15 here I get thiss much. But TBH this will do almost everything and wont need upgrading untill everything ok. I'd be tempted to try to stretch but hey!!!

thanks for that siumatfung :)
jobs a job at the end of the day, personally just want to not be bored in the day, am very tempted to tinker with 'rents p4 3.0ghz 1gb ram clunky sounding job here but as i wont benefit from it much and theyre happy with it its pointless lol

p0ss3s3d thats a very temptin little system there, if i waited a couple of weeks and stuck a 4850 and sum ocz ram in would that thrash CoD4+5 and css?
very willing to overclock so would also stick a non stock cooler in there too, hopefully bringin it up to around 500-600 :D
cheers for the replys anyway lads :D

RAM wont make any difference but if you want 4gb of OCZ or Corsair buy that £40 stuffs. 4850 is a great card, I'd be tempted to plump for a P5Q and a Noctua, they are insane, got my e8400 at 4ghz ATM, but for SuperPi runs 4.6ghz 57degs C load for about an 1hour!!!!

I think this is the sort of thing I'd look at for that money, a 512mb 4870 is fine for 1440x900 ( I assume that basically what your using) and at that price is a BARGIN.

Don't see the point in going for a B-grade burner as they are so cheap brand new. You can get a 22x one for the same price, with full warranty plus you know no cables/manuals etc will be missing.
