If you had £300 would you upgrade this rig?

I've currently got a q6600 and a GTX285 with 6gb of DDR2 on an Asus P5K (standard)

Got £300 for my b-day and wondered if I should think about upgrading any of this or not. It's mainly used for games. Particularly MW2 when that comes out.

Cheers,

G

I think for £300 its not really worth considering an upgrade. Have you overclocked your Q6600?

A really good aftermarket CPU cooler and good overclock is my only suggestion and save for a new build for 12/18 months times.

I'm in the same boat money burning a hole in my pocket looking at a I5 or i7 setup but you got a be realistic all games i play are maxed out all my video work is pretty fast but i did buy a ssd and that made a improvement

I can't remember what the stock for my q6600 is but I think I'm running it at 2.7, I'm no good at over clocking though.

Maybe an SSD would be a good shout :)

The monies burning a hole in your wallet, I know the feeling!

lol I just feel obliged to buy something as people will ask what I got with the money they gave me lol

I'd say save you money and overclock- get a new quality psu (if you haven't already) and a good aftermarket cooler. Although i can't really talk, i have just been in your position having posted many times whether or not i should upgrade from my core 2 quad rig and well...check my sig lol. Was it worth it? Performance wise... not really, but we had to get another pc anyways as the family one died plus i was itching to build my own (first) pc so in that respect yes it was definitely worth it to me.

So you have a Q6600, P5K, GTX 285, 6GB DDR2. What are the rest of your system specs, including peripherals?

I ask, because my if you are generally happy with the performance (that system will run MW2 at a fair clip) then you could invest in some lovely new peripherals, like a new monitor/mouse/keyboard/speakers/sound card, or upgrade your OS to windows 7 (if you haven't already).

Was gonna suggest an SSD. Now is the time to buy as prices are going up and will likely stay there for a while
