If you had the choice...

between the Sapphire 290 Tri-X and the Vapor-X what would you choose?

If money was no object, the Vapor X. Slightly improved PCB, slightly better vrm cooling and its blue. Blue is the best colour known to man. That said, i also think the Tri-X is really nice so either would be a good choice, imo Rofls.

The 290 Tri-X.

I like the look of both a lot, but I don't really see the point of paying more for such a small return, so it would more than likely be the Tri-X for me.

Does the Tri-X come with a back-plate?

Your middle name is blue isn't?

If looks are important go for the Vapor-X

If not then grab whatever is cheapest.

Think I've talked myself into the Vapor-X, I like the backplate on it and prefer the colour of it over the Tri-x plus the Intelligent Fan Control and the blingy temperature LED. :D It's only £40 more over the Tri-x as well.

as above, but with overclocking in mind, if your going to overclock and if so how far you want to push it.

Tri-X cheaper, slower at stock, might not overclock to the same extreme.

Vapour-X faster at stock(just) possibly overclock further at extremes.

If you are going to overclock but not too hard then the Tri-X is the better idea as its it cheaper and will probably clock just as far as the other with out getting serious about it.

If you are not going to overclock then only you can decide if the extra Mhz if worth the cash

Yeah, although not essential for me, I do prefer a back-plate on a card. I have one on my Asus 7970, which adds a nice finishing touch to the product. Enjoy your new card. :)

Having owned both I would go with vapor-x all day it is a beast of a card and can match a stock 290x with ease.

No competitor hinting or pricing.

Tri X.

Reference card so i would actually be able to

1. Waterblock it.
2. Crossfire it with my other 290
3. Bench it at higher volts than 1.4 instead of being locked down like a child.
4. Flash the bios.

Knowing Mike as i do, he won't be doing any of those things. :D

Lol Rofls.

Will you be water cooling, adding 1.5 volts or adding a second card for crossfire? ;)

:D

I might do some of those things :p One thing for sure I'll be proper water cooling before you ever will. ;):D

I also prefer to spend my spare time playing games than benchmarking. :)

Out of interest, what was the max volts you used on your 7970?
