If You Had...

After the Focus RS, yes. The Focus is not in budget though unfortunately for him.

But This could be snapped up with-in budget, which is a bargain. Yes its white, but it is a very good example.

Think you're alone there friend.
It's generally accepted to be better than the RS.

And dont think i'm using this as the reason why, because I'm not.
but it's significantly quicker around the 'ring than the RS500 Focus despite its 100hp+ disadvantage

Regardless of what you think about how useful a ring time is, they are both modern front wheel drive hatches, And one is 365hp with the other having 250...

It says a lot about the megane's cornering ability i think.

Never knew that. I thought a RS500 would leave it too far behind on acceleration for the Megane to catch up on the corners.

Renault really are the masters.

The video is actually quite terrifying. The guys has massive *****
Every corner is like " Youre going to brake here though right?.....RIGHT!?"

Also the problem I'd have with the Megane is I'd constantly be worrying about when it's going to break. Honda reliability goes a long long way.

I would take the Focus RS over the Megane all day, every day. I also fail to believe that the Megane can overcome a 100bhp disadvantage enough to take an RS500 on the 'ring.

Of course, if you'd like to source me and it seems credible, i'll happily retract that.

Doesn't the Megane have the fastest time for a FWD hatch?

The idea of just skipping and going to the likes of an M3 or Evo does really tempt me as they are the kind of cars that warrant the extra money, but the running costs scare me with these.

Go and price up front discs and pads for a B7 RS4 on ECP.

Then do the same for an E46 M3.

What are your thoughts now? I know what you mean about spending too much. For me, too, it's got to be about the right amount, value for money and not a penny more which is why I will end up with a dog and spend a few quid rather than a garage queened example :p

I was interested in why you think the Megane would have a stiffer shell than the FD2.

Don't know that it would :p
Although if we are to generalise then GENERALLY a 3 door of one model will be stiffer than its 4/5 door equivalent.
Thats not to say that the FD2 can't have a stiffer shell than a given 3door :)
Not really a point i was making though... i was trying to bring some quantifiable points into why it is categorically the best fwd drivers car.
More so than a long list of cars you could put up for contention.

I can't think of many (any?) cars available in both 3 door and 4 door versions. (Edit - focus would be one...)

Anyway, a 4 door will normally be stiffer than a 5 door counterpart. I doubt there's much difference between cars available in 3 and 5 door variants.

You posted something pretty silly, saying that its "hardly going to have a stiff chassis" because its 4 door - you're backtracking quite badly now!
