If you have a question that can be easily answered by a quick Google or by using a bit of common sense do you still ask the question on these forums?

Why do people ask the questions that nobody could possibly answer on these forums except for the actual people involved in the situation?

Do they do it for a bit of social interaction to kick up a quick chat? Or are they lazy? It doesn't make sense they'd rather write out a full opening post then wait for somebody to reply with the right answer.

So OcUK do you ever think of a question then realise you could answer it yourself easily and then not bother to post it?

I sometimes do then realise that it is a complete waste of other peoples time then just don't even bother posting it.

Depends if the question may led to an interesting discussion, if not I would always use Google to find the answer.

Basically this.

Some stuff is more opinion based too, so if you are asking people for opinions on a chair for example or to help you find a nice desk, you can mention your requirements and then maybe someone knows just the thing.

Personally, I always Google the answer first. Can't stand not knowing the answer to something. I rarely post threads asking questions unless I can't find the information elsewhere first, or want some opinions.

Are you lazy? Google the answer yourself.

Some stuff can't be answered though, you can google for a desk sure, or a case, but you can't find out how easy it is to assemble, how much room it gives you, if the finish is nice, does it scratch easily, if someone can recommend anything better than it, or simply to get opinions.

Obviously there are silly questions, but some questions are no different to asking what is the best graphics card, or "why is my game crashing with XX hardware and software".

*EDIT*

Personally on buying stuff I am usually googling as well, but I think other people can offer maybe (on occasion) something I missed.

That's basically my response although I would pose the question.....Before people post on OCuK, why don't they additionally search these forums?

For example in the Home Cinema sub forum, everyday there is a spec me a plasma thread etc. and almost all the time the particulare persons needs are generic enough that it will have been answered before.

Call me a git but geeez ppl.....the search button is not hidden and hard to use.

We do seem to have quite a few threads at times where the OP should have done some research themselves, via Google or searching the forum.

In some cases the OP is the same over and over again, (can you say dvdbunny)

I have the same issue at work at times with people wanting to know how to do things and not bothering to investigate anything themselves ...
