if you have one network lan cable how do you split it in to two ?

Is it possible If I have a modem router and at the end of one cable two bit attached to it or do I need two cables ?

you can in theory use the un-used cables as normal cat5 only uses half the number of wires iirc.

If your only using Ethernet or Fast Ethernet (ie, no GigE) then you can. With Fast Ethernet only wires 1 (orange/white), 2 (orange), 3 (green/white) & 6 (green) are used leaving the others free.

It isn't worth the bother of knocking up the cables you'd need at each end though, I've done it in past but only when running a cable wasn't an option.

either tun 2 cables, or if that isn''t possible, put a switch at the end where you need the 2 outlets

Yeah, putting a switch on the end of that cable would be the best option if you really dont want to run another cable.
