I just discovered this little gem years after it's release.
Installed it and patched to v1.42 (the later patch didn't recognize Directx 9.0c properly - but didn't add anyhing much anyway). Minor issue with needing to run my PC protection suite in "Gamemode" otherwise Darwinia didn't start up properly - just a blank screen and some sound. In one level started to get crashes - I think it was because I collect silly numbers of Darwinians - I'm talking thousands here.
There is still a website offering some support and advice.
There are even some mods arounds.
I have played this thing through twice in a row and am now near the end of my third pass.
I'm posting this because I never fail to moan if something irritatates me - now it is time to be nice about something.
Darwinia is different, fun and wonderful. Give it a try please.
PS: If you look at reviewer's screenshot - it is MEANT to look like that! Don't be put off. There is quite a sophisticated graphics engine making the screen look so simple.
