had a theoretical £2000 and you were after a car what would you buy and what would be the pro's and con's of your choice?

realistically, 1.8 mondeo on 02 plate (facelift model).

as its theorically, i'd be looking at a bike engined kit car too but chances of me getting that for £2k are slim lol.

pros - cheap and common.
cons - common lol.

I'd buy a really crap E39 528i and then waste thousands more pounds over the next year desperately trying to tidy it up and make it look like a facelift Sport. I would lose thousands and it would be a complete moneypit.

But I wouldnt want anything else :(

taking insurance into account? If i had to buy insurance with my own money, probably a 2.0 mondeo mk3. if insurance not an issue, some old money pit beemer.

You say that as if insurance is the biggest most important part of running a money pit Beemer :p Mine broke again yesterday.

309 gti with mi16 lump... Use the rest or a spare rear beam or rear beam reburb kit....

Or, the boring option, 406 estate if you need something to hold lots of stuff...

Omega MV6 or Elite

Pro's : Big, Comfortable motoring
Con's : Potentially large repair bills, not brilliant fuel economy.

Same as what I currently have, but pushing the budget a bit for a later one.

A phase 3 306 GTI-6 or a 306 Rallye.

Or a phase 1 Clio 172 as these have dropped in price this year.

So with that in mind... please explain the appeal of them? I thought that BMW's had good build quality? or does that just mean the seats are nice?

As for op... I continue my vauxhall hating, DONT GET ONE!! They have way too many sensors that break every 5 minutes, and they rust like most cars used to 20+ years ago.

£2k will get u a good CRX with the B16 engine
VTEC Mini?

What is it going to be used for?

Sensible choice yeah if u want newer end of market then MK3 Mondeo, you really can't do much better than that for the money.

Perhaps we should just make a sticky on motors...
"If you are about to post a 'spec me a car' thread, please consider all mondeo's before posting"

Ethos's 205 Mi16 and insure it.

winner :D

pro: faster than most, bit of a cult, proper pedigree handling, old school coolness

cons: rust, age, death when the inevitable happens

didn't have my e39 for long but the biggest cost was 40notes for topup oil :D

its theoretical. so which would you like given that buying it with £2k was your only constraint. :)

Would depend what I was planning on doing with the car. if it was a disposible comfy car, an early A8 can be had at this money, or some sort of rwd coupe that was probably half knackered. If I had to get something likely to be reliable transport, probably a mondeo or similar
