I made a thread a while back about this in the memory section but only got 1 reply that did'nt really answer my question, as this is really more of an o/c query I thought I'd repost it here i hope that's alright :) ,

I've still not brought any memory for my Intel D975XBX m/b as I can't decide between ddr2 667 ram or ddr2 800, I know the board natively supports ddr2 533/667, but I will want to overclock the conroe when it comes out so will it be better for me to get ddr2 800, could someone explain why/if it's better having faster ram than your m/b natively supports, is it b-cos when you o/c your fsb it also increases the ram speed so if you have ram that is already running slower than it is cabable of it won't be putting any real strain on it ?

cheers

I guess it makes sense... I've a feeling that i'd be similar to putting PC4000 DDR in a PC3200 DDR MoBo, the dividers will only play up to DDR200, but you can ram the FSB higher with RAM rated higher, without having to switch from 1:1 which is ofc what you want.

I'm no authority, but my Gut tells me that's the case..
