You know when you turn the ignition, the engine should fire up after a second or two. Well i've noticed that my car is beginning to take a bit longer to fire up, so that you can actually hear the engine chug a bit before starting.

I've heard other cars do it, but thought it as normal, but now my car is doing it i'm a bit curious.

I had this problem a few weeks ago, then when I was changing the headlight bulbs it just died :( Had to do a bump start and and then a new battery the next day solved it straight away.

Same with my wifes car recently... short journeys, little charging, kills the battery it would seem (battery is like 7 years old). It just doesn`t hold its charge any more. My scooter was worse, battery only lasted 3 years similar reasons.

Don't worry too much about it, sometimes, my car fires on the first turn of the key, sometimes - although not often - it'll take a few turns to fire.

Same thing with my truck also.

The cars a petrol, the truck a diesel.

As I say, imo, nothing to worry about.

Cold weather = thicker oil = more effort to start the engine = takes slightly longer.

That's my experience anyway, all my cars have always taken a second or two longer to start once the weather gets colder for the winter.

My Focus used to take a few seconds longer to fire up, but since topping the oil up from the minimum mark its gone back to starting very quickly. Worth checking all the fluid levels :)
