I was just looking for a way to remove the IHS from my Q6600 then came across this thread

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/305443-ihs-removals-how-do-should-i.html

Erm... o-kayyy, better not then! lol...

this looks nice though :) i've never had a CPU with an IHS on it before this Q6600 and my temps are crazily different, so I'm gonna lap this thing :D lemme just run some tests now so I have before/after pics for you guys

here's the link:

PS... I'm not gonna lap my arctic cooling freezer 7 pro... that's just long... totally cba for that...

Yeah you don't wanna remove the IHS on a Q6600 lol...

Lapping works wonders on them... a lapped Q6600 and ACF7 pro should manage below 30C idle and below 60C load on all but IBT.

Make sure you apply the thermal paste (I reccomend AS5 or MX3) as a thin horizontal line going left to right through the middle of the text on the IHS and slightly wider than the text. Whatever you do don't spread it on a Q6600 and a blob might have uncertain results.

you're gonna lap ur proc but cba doing the HSF?
It was actually faster for me to lap the heatsink and I got great resuls for having done it:)

ok maybe i'll try the HSF too then :)

actually i probably will have to cause i'll be removing the current stuff on there and i dont want any remains...

i just need to go get hold of some sandpaper etc :(
