i found someone in iiyama support who answered this. It does not have Freesync, just a fairly high top end refresh rate

Probably because there are still no proper reviews of this monitor PCM2 or Kitguru etc who give honest reviews about its capabilities. I doubt most people would be able to drop £500 on a gamble. I am still interested but until this happens I will wait.
